Welcome to issue #027 of Insideletter!
Each week, I share 2–3 editions in which I outline the exact steps to build a newsletter business to £1K a month.
Nowadays, in the creator economy, everyone is trying to create content.
But only 1% actually get the desired results.
Do you know the reason why 99% people fail? because they don’t distribute their content enough.
And as a newsletter business owner, you need to distribute your content more than you can think.
In this edition, let’s talk about it. Let me give you the distribution playbook to use.
1. Social media
As you know, I don’t like social media because it’s unpredictable and owned by someone else.
But does that mean we shouldn’t use social media? No.
We should squeeze our social media potential as much as possible.
But we should leverage it, but don’t depend upon it.
Best practices:
Use content that is working best on the particular social media. Be it video (IG), carousel (LI) or Text (X).
Always use links to drive the audience to your newsletter.
DM your audience and connections and ask them to subscribe.
2. Cross-promote
Growing a newsletter is harder than ever.
Everyone is starting their own newsletter, but there is a good side too.
Earlier, there were very few people who were creating content on different niches.
But now, as more people are coming, we can find our peers and take their help to grow.
If you don’t find the exact type. You can reach out to the newsletter owners whose audience might be almost the same as yours.
Also, I use InboxReads, and The Sample. It drives some newsletter subscribers, too. Give it a try.
3. Content flywheel
Let’s assume there are 50 people who’re reading your newsletter. But out of them, only 10 people follow you on social media.
So at the end of your newsletter, you can ask them to follow on social media.
In this case, three things would happen.
A. They will see your content, so you’ll live on their mind rent-free.
B. If they engage with your post, 5 other people from their network will get to know you
C. You’ll grow your social reach.
Also, you should add a ‘share with your friends’ button. I mean the recommendation button.
Which is free on Beehiiv, but on Kit, you can use sparkloop.
But one crucial thing? Nobody will do anything for free, so make sure to add some incentive.
4. Leverage communities
I can’t emphasise how communities play the most crucial role in growing your newsletter
But if you join a community and start putting links, you’re out immediately.
So, what’s the ideal way?
The answer is cliché, but the only answer is value.
First of all, you’ve to join the communities which are relevant to your newsletter. If you’re in AI, then join communities where they talk about AI and then keep educating people or providing value. And whenever you get a chance to promote yourself, do it.
Let’s assume you’ve written a piece on the latest writing AI tools.
And the community members are talking about ‘how writing is hard as a newbie’, you can share your knowledge with them and at the end, if they ask for more or if you think the newsletter has something more to add, then you can attach the link.
In this way, you don’t become irrelevant, but you can still grow your newsletter.
Bonus hack:
Create a ‘best of’ page. What do I mean by this?
You can create a page where you can pin your top or best content so people can read it or see it again and again.
Can I give you a challenge?
Pick any 2 from this list and use that, and you’ll let me know the change in the coming Saturday’s edition, deal?
Thanks for reading. I am so happy to have you as part of my community.
I’ll see you. Bye!
