Welcome to issue #030 of Insideletter!
Each week, I share 2–3 editions in which I outline the exact steps to build a newsletter business to £1K a month.
Everyone wants to build a one-person media business.
But no one tells you what you need to build it.
So, today I’m sharing the exact tools I use to run my newsletter business.
First and most important,
Writing
Trust me, I don’t use any fancy app.
I use simple Notion and Google Docs.
Notion is buggy sometimes, but it’s the place to keep my idea bank.
Although Substack itself is a good place to write.
For grammar, I don’t use Grammarly. The free version is sufficient.
Also, you can use Hemingway, but my writing is already simple. So, I don’t use it.
I’ve tried Typefully or Hyperfury. You can try it for content repurposing and getting inspiration.
Design
Canva is the best. Period.
Analytics
Substack has it all inbuilt. I used Beehiiv too, it’s far, far better than anything else.
Monetisation
I can’t turn on the Substack payment because Stripe doesn’t work in India.
But for the digital products, I use Lemon Squeezy.
System
For tracking and all, I use a simple Google sheet, more than sufficient. I also use Loom to record certain parts of my system or if anything needs to be documented for future purposes.
Subscribers growth
I heavily promote my newsletter on social media, which helps me grow my subscribers.
