Would you believe me if I said a 20-email sequence generated over $1M?
Most likely, you’d laugh and say, “Anirban, are you kidding me? I’m afraid to send more than one email, and here you’re saying 20?”
But this is exactly what Nicholas Cole and Dicky Bush did.
This is the first blog post of Dark Chocolate, where I’ll break down the email sales funnel and show you how you can leverage it for your business to print cash.
Today’s, I’ll show you how Nicholas Cole and Dicky Bush made this possible.
Before we proceed further let’s know who are this Nicholas cole and Dicky Bush.
Meet the creators:
Nicholas Cole began his online writing career at the age of 17 with a gaming blog focused on World of Warcraft. In 2007, he was one of the highest-ranked players in North America and attracted over 10,000 daily readers.
After that, he completed his education at Columbia College Chicago, graduating in 2013 with a degree in Fiction Writing. He then got a job as an entry-level copywriter at a boutique advertising agency in downtown Chicago.
Cole started writing on Quora, posting one answer daily. By 2015, he became the #1 most-read writer on all of Quora.
A Princeton University graduate with a major in Math and Computer Science, Dicky Bush landed his dream job at the global investment firm BlackRock. For the next four years, he worked as a hedge fund trader in the bustling streets of Manhattan. However, like many people with a growth mindset, Dicky didn’t see his future there.
So, he left and began writing, a transition that stemmed from his time at BlackRock.
Later, Dicky and Cole met and built what would become one of the best things to happen in the writing industry: Ship 30 for 30.
So, it’s not so difficult to understand why someone would read their emails, they’ve done it themselves and are teaching others to do the same.
Writing is an art, and very few actually know how to do it well.
Their goals:
Cole and Dicky are fully focused on ghostwriting and building the #1 writing business in the world.
Currently, they are selling Ship 30 for 30, a writing program, along with a category newsletter program where they teach the A-Z of the newsletter business, and a Premium Ghostwriting Academy.
To promote their Ship 30 for 30 cohort, they created an email sequence of 20 emails.
This sequence is challenging some of the top myths in the email marketing industry, such as “Don’t send too many emails, they’ll be annoyed” and “Email sales funnels don’t generate revenue.”
Before diving into each email, let’s first examine the initial touchpoint.
Dicky and Nicholas kept adding the ship 30 under 30 as the CTA under his each tweet and drove the traffic to the email list.
Let’s see their emails:

We're going to break the internet this Black Friday.
From $0 to 7 figures in 12 months by writing every day
The key thing about this is that every email is crisp and clear.
As I always say, be clear, not clever. And the way they’ve used the subject lines is really effective.
Key takeaways
Nicholas and Dicky’s email sequence is divided into two types: sales and pure value.
Now, most of us think that the more we send emails, the more we annoy our audience. But that’s not the case. If they love what you’re sending, they’ll keep reading and buying from you.
All you need is an engaged list. An email sales funnel works when you set up a good, clear opt-in page, configure perfect automation based on user behavior, and write really great emails.
Thanks for reading my breakdown. Please comment and let me know your thoughts on this breakdown.
Also, you can let me know if you want me to break down someone’s email sales funnel.
I’ll see you in the next week with another breakdown.
