Welcome to issue #026 of Insideletter!
Each week, I share 2–3 editions in which I outline the exact steps to build a newsletter business to £1K a month.
First of all, come celebrate with me, Insideletter crossed 100 subscribers. 🥳
Now let’s get back to the most important topic of the hour. And this will be the new way, too.
For decades, building a media brand meant working within a big institution.
Like newspapers, magazines, TV, or large online publications. I
f you wanted an audience, you had to pitch gatekeepers, editors, producers, and publishers who decided if your content was worth publishing.
That traditional model is dead.
Today, you can achieve it all. The internet world is so vast and powerful
We have enough platforms and direct-to-audience tools.
Anyone can become a one-person media company. You can build, grow, and monetise your audience all on your own terms without asking for permission or splitting revenue with a middleman.
Here’s why the one-person media company is the new way to build an audience and why you should consider it:
1. Your own your audience:
You know the fact that I am so against social media, because someone else is the owner of it, and they decide how you should navigate.
Of course, I am not saying you’ll do bad practices, and someone should support that, but they control everything, even your existence on the platform.
Whereas in the one-man media business, you own your audience and you talk to them directly.
No algo, no restrictions.
2. Full creative control
I was a medium writer, and I heard people complaining a lot about how Medium editors don’t allow content if they don’t like it.
It’s not about Medium, it’s the story of every platform.
But when you own your publication, you write, you decide how to edit, what to add, and what not to.
And finally, follow your brand.
3. Feedback loop
I suggest this to my community members and everyone who wants to learn more about the newsletter business:
Beg for feedback.
But it becomes easier when you publish the content.
Instantly, people get to see your content, and they can give feedback on what they love and what they don’t.
You can work on it. And if your audience gets satisfaction, you’ll be wealthier.
4. Multiple revenue streams
If you ask me what the best part of a solo media business is, it’s multiple revenue sources without a split in the total profit.
You can make money with:
Paid subscriptions
Digital products sales
Affiliate
Higher-tier offer sales
5. No entry barrier
Starting a newsletter or podcast costs little to nothing. (I’m starting the Insideletter podcast)
You don’t need a big budget or a team. Just your ideas and a laptop would work.
Trust me, I had nothing when I started.
Now, the biggest question: why does it even matter to you?
In the age of AI, everyone is likely using AI. And a lot of people are doing it without even including a human element in it.
And I’ve been noticing it a lot day by day.
Whatever they are doing makes no sense, literally.
The world is shifting, The world is shifting from institutions to individuals. And they want to listen to humans, not robots.
If you’ve been thinking about starting a newsletter, podcast, or any content business, now is the best time to start.
Let’s talk in the comments. What kind of media brand do you want to build?
Thanks for reading. See you on Saturday.

Anirban “building a solo media brand” Das.
When you connect with your audience directly, you really understand them. That makes it easier to create stuff they care about and keep improving as you go.
That's a really good guide on that!!
